GunSenseSC was a Charleston-based advocate for common sense gun laws across our state. Polling showed that moderate gun-owners supported the organization’s goals of tighter background checks and assault weapon restrictions. However, due to public misperceptions stemming from its national profile and association with Michael Bloomberg, the organization struggled to attract the broader coalition it needed to gain credibility with state lawmakers.

Years after the murder of nine parishioners at Emanual AME church, Gun Sense sought our help in widening their tent. The result was a new name and positioning that put responsible gun owners in the spotlight to challenge the narrative that gun reform was an extremist agenda.

Putting Social Proof to work, the campaign increased engagement and built momentum in what continues to be one of our society’s most critical areas of reckoning.
